General Discussion / Re: Hello there!
June 10, 2020, 01:31:40 AM
Hey! I'd very much recommend going to the discord. But since I'm a lazy man, I'll just paste in the event schedule.

First Monday of the month. 2000 Eastern Time: Main story event.
First Saturday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time: Cadet RP
Second Monday of the month. 0800 Eastern Time: Main Story Event.
Second Saturday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time: Klingon Crew RP
Third Monday of the month. 2000 Eastern Time. Main Story Event.
Third Saturday of the Month. 1500 Eastern Time. Diplomatic Corps/Command RP.
Fourth Monday of the month. 1500 Eastern Time. Main Story Event.
Main story event - ongoing storyline events that include the entire alliance. Sometimes may be specialised to certain alliance faction.
Cadet RP - A more guided/GMed RP based around a class of cadets at SFA. Will focus more on commonality then rank. Only NPCs will be full members of starfleet
Klingon Crew RP - pretty self explanatory. Something that's needed to happen for a while now.
Diplomatic/command RP - A focus on the higher levels of the alliance. They will take the reports the captains make and decide where the story goes
A few Caveats. - A minimum of three players must show up for an event to run. The GMed events are a bit more 'controlled' then the others. And as always, feel free to ask me any questions.

LOCATION: Derelict Maquis Base - Badlands

MISSION: Investigate Previous Sensor Readings

OUTCOME: Mission Complete. The readings were investigated though no clear culprit was found. This incident is to be logged for future reference.

KEY PERSONNEL:

Phill'min Ijhlab - Starfleet Captain. Took interest in derelict base despite the technology being outdated and it being strategically insignificant. Motives unknown.

Bala - Starlfeet Captain. Apparent Specialist in low gravity environments. Could pose significant threat to Jem Hadar forces in said circumstances.

Mhai t'Jhaelaa - Starfleet Captain. Romulan. They are a deceptive people, I advise review of the records during the Alpha war, when they killed their own senator to spur their population to conflict. A Starfleet captain is said to never lie. Is this an oxymoron?

Jenn - Starfleet Captain. Apparently knowledgeable in phaser emissions.

Karlis - Vorta. This alliance with the Alpha quadrant has made it clear the Vorta are needed. This one served the Founders well. Would not recommend on low gravity operations in the future.
NARRATIVE: Two weeks after the registration of power signatures by scout vessel Devout-117 in the badlands area a conference was called with Starfleet personnel. Starfleet authorized a multi-ship endeavour to the Badlands to conduct a more comprehensive investigation. It was clearly the will of the Founders that the technologically apt minds of Starfleet saw the wisdom in continuing this investigation. The Vorta too proved invaluable for convincing the representatives of the Federation to submit to the Founder's will in this instance.

Location was pulled from log of Devout-117. As expected their work proved acceptable and the fleet was able to locate the base with ease. A deployment of the Starfleet forces, myself, a Vorta liaison, and two Jem Hadar for security. They remained under shroud. Through use of a variety of sources Starfleet was able to determine that a cutting crew had removed an industrial replicator from the facility. The group then fell into infighting over the crew's possible motives. This is a sign of a clear flaw in Starfleet's unity, and will be the subject of my next message to the Federation President.

Though no deceive measures have been taken it is clear that such a potent weapon can not be allowed to fall in to the wrong hands. I do not know how to maintain the security of Starfleet's outer colonies if they refuse to allow suppression measures against potentially hostile elements to happen. I see more then ever the need for the Jem Hadar in this alliance. I pray to the Founders that they will see the wisdom in these measures.

All Glory to the Founders.

RECOMMENDATION: It is necessary that we continue our patrols of derelict positions, especially those containing weapons. I advise the Vorta speak to Starfleet about increasing their own security measures.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Shalamar is a Captain within the Federation, and a loyal officer in Starfleet.  However, is is Ex-Terran Empire, having defected when the ship he was serving on unexpectedly arrived in this universe in the middle of a borg attack force.

He proved himself against the Borg, and was offered a Starfleet comission, along with a couple of the other officers.

His training in the T.E. means he is not well versed in engineering, or the sciences, but is a skilled combatant, leading his crew with a strong will in a crisis.  He has weathered a few assassination attempts, though those have tapered off since his arrival here.

Starfleet often hands him and his crew captured vessels from the Mirror Universe to test, and bring up to Starfleet spec.  This often causes slight issues due to subtle differences in technology.

He has been informed that he should not use his rank outside his ship, and that his career has ended at Captain, due to the risk he would carry if he were promoted further.  He understands, and accepts this, happy to serve has captain of a starship.

Name: Nylassa a sh'Alundi
Species: Andorian
Rank: Captain
Reason for Report:

Regular update of files.

Procedure:
- Background information gathered
- Social Emotional function analyzed
- Verbal comprehension test administered.
- Working memory function analyzed.

Background Information:
Subject shows apprehension to the examination, has trouble carrying out casual conversation pending the official evaluation. Exhibits a healthy use of holodecks for recreation, focusing on 'comic' designs. These programs appear very fantastic, and have little to do with reality. I would compare them to the 'Adventures of Flotter' series.
Behavioral Observations:
- Likes to be prepared for all examinations and tests.
- Seeks variety in stimuli
- Shows a prediction for 'big picture' thinking. Sacrificing details in the process.
- Showed specific care in analyzing information given in Verbal comprehension test.
- Subject is hesitant to admit personal fault, achievement, instead posing larger philosophical questions as a form of distraction.
- Subject has a tendency to avoid direct personal questions. Preferring to state answers in reference to group, rather than individual.

Verbal Comprehension:

Score: 100%

Subject shows great strength of technical analysis, and nearly Vulcan attention to detail.

Perceptual Organisation:

Working Memory:

Subject has issues recalling irrelevant information, from the start of the test. and confused two proper nouns. This is not unexpected of an Andorian.

Processing Speed:

Processing speed is at acceptable levels for the Andorian mind. The subject may show split-second hesitation while regarding extremely emotional decisions. However this hesitation is well within the acceptable level for emotionally liberal species.

Social-Emotional Functioning

Subject is averse to being caught unprepared. She shows suspicion towards groups she feels may pose a threat to the Federation, but is willing to work with old enemies in the interest of peace. The subject questions the ability of any individual to make a difference within the wider conflicts of the galaxy.

Summary:

Captain Nylassa sh'Alundi shows aptitude for command decisions and decisive information processing. It is not foreseen that there will be any emotional issues effecting decisions in any negative way. However the Captain feels that on a personal, or ship level she may not be able to do enough, and as such may be vulnerable to actions that will provide significant change, without regards to stability. Monthly counselling sessions are recommended to improve issues of self esteem related to this.

Signing Medical Staff:
Healer C'bal - Full evaluation.

Name: Josephine Allen
Species: Human
Rank: Captain
Reason for Report:

Report requested by Starfleet Command in relation to a recent assignment. As is to be expected of Starfleet Captains, this evaluation was not taken of their own initiative.

Procedure:
- Initial Word association test administered by Dr. Hasparak. (Processing speed analyzed)
- Background information gathered
- Verbal Comprehension test administered
- Working memory test administered
- Social Emotional function analysed

Background Information:
Subject shows no history of substance or holodeck addiction. The subject does not use holodecks for recreational purposes under normal circumstances, maintaining use strictly for simulation and training. Subject will seek holographic recreation when other avenues of distraction are unavailable. An attempt at a healthy social life is shown, but the subject states regret at duties preventing such.
Behavioral Observations:
- Receptive to medical orders
- Finds humour in comments made by Dr. Hasparak.
- Deals well with multiple sources of information simultaneously.
- Showed specific care in analyzing information given in Verbal comprehension test.
- Subject shows an eagerness to do 'well' in the evaluation. Overly so.
- Subject is hesitant to admit personal fault, relying on collective statistic and reasoning to mask any perceived faults as normal.
- Subject has a tendency to avoid direct personal questions. Preferring to state answers in abstracts.

Verbal Comprehension:

Score: 66.6%

Subject shows a tendency to focus on moral issues while disregarding technical and logistical parts of the test passage.

Perceptual Organisation:

Working Memory:

Subject shows hesitation in recalling events of previous parts of the test. Relying on association to deliver accurate recollection.

Processing Speed:

Processing speed is at acceptable levels for a Human mind. A minor delay in answers during the word association tests suggest that the subject may show split-second hesitation while regarding extremely emotional decisions. However this hesitation is well within the acceptable level for emotionally liberal species.

Social-Emotional Functioning

Subject shows a distinct aversion to being singled out, and will go to great lengths to mask herself as part of a collective. Subject draws an immense amount of identity from position as a Starfleet officer, and has difficulty separating herself from the ideals of Starfleet.

Summary:

Captain Allen is a competent officer, but needs time to mature into the role of Captain. It is the opinion of this evaluator that, for the time being, Captain Allen should be supervised closely by overseeing officers and would benefit greatly from working with more experienced Captains.

Signing Medical Staff:
Dr. Hasparak - Word association
Healer C'bal - Full evaluation.

LOCATION: Northern Reaches

MISSION: Confirm reports of Witchcraft. Locate Witch.

OUTCOME: The witch was located with the aid of outsiders. Imperial bombardment of the forest will not be needed.

KEY PERSONNEL:

A team of outlanders was found in the forest where the witch was reported to be. A quarry of their own appeared soon after as well.
NARRATIVE: Witchhunters log, Day 1: Made contact with village near site of reported witchlight. They were happy to co-operate with all of my needs.

Witchhunters log, Day 2: Gathered reports from the village, logged multiple use of witch on several of the village's most eligible spinsters. Reports of witchlight were given, but this light was orange. Not green. A variation we have not seen before.

Witchhunters log, Day 3: Livestock reported missing, witchlight suspected. If so, this witch must be running low on lights.

Witchhunters log, Day 4: Tracking in the woods. No report.

Witchhunters log, Day 5:  Tracking in the woods. Found remains of livestock. Recalculating for number of witchlight flashes suspected.

Witchhunters log, Day 6: Continued to track, find several burns on stone. While they may be strange to the untrained eye, it is the clear sign of witchlight test fire.

Witchhunters log, Day 7: Tracking in forest. Nothing to report.

Witchhunters log, Day 8: Made contact with group of strangers in forest while tracking. They were suspicious, and claimed to come from the village. This ruse was easily foiled, however they insisted they mean no harm. While many aspects of their trickery were nearly convincing, they failed to grasp even the slightest nuance of Imperial culture. When subjected to the blood test, they bled pink.

Despite this, they continued to insisted they were there to help. They seemed very interested in the witch attack during the month of darkness. It is my belief they know of these witches by another name. They seemed interested in retrieving the witchlight device.

The witch, however, stole this chance and threatened the group with her witchlight device. Without the training of the Inquisition, she did not know the device had a limited number of flashes. Nor did she know it was out. Despite the interference of an enemy of my new 'allies' I was able to detain the witch. However her witchlight device and several other tools were taken by the party of outsiders.

Witchhunters log, Day 9: The witch showed me where her witchlight device fell from the sky. The palisade was much smaller then the one that attacked the capitol all of those years ago. I have advised against moving any piece of it, as it has remained unfound by my new 'allies' and I do not know why. I will leave this log here under guard, until supplies can be brought from the labs in the capitol

Witchhunters log, Day 39: I have returned from the capitol with a power source salvaged from the original palisade. It has proven enough to power the most basic spells of this one. The aid of the witch, or should I say Inquisitor Scribe Gladirel has been most helpful. The order will be most interested in this.

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended to the Order that a permanent base be set up at this new palisade for research purposes. It appears to be much more advanced then one in which the current inquisitorial headquarters is based, and will lead to a significant increase in knowledge.

LOCATION: Nimbus III

MISSION: Gather Intelligence on Alliance Operations by sending faked distress call.

OUTCOME: Mission Success, enemy intelligence and equipment gained.

KEY PERSONNEL:

Commander Vorlek, Romulan Imperial Military.
Commander Liiear, Romulan Republic Navy.
NARRATIVE: Romulan Republic operatives were quick to answer the distress call, failed to call out several inconsistencies in given story.

In an attempt to "capture" operative, for interrogation Republic officers gave key information on state of Imperial civil war. Key players, and territorial breakdown. This information will be included in report to further imperial military strategy.

Despite being caught in the temporal effects near the black hole for nearly thirty years of real time, the operative was not questioned heavily on a lack of relevant 'common' knowledge. Recommend all intel be verified through other means.

Operative surrendered to Republic captain, and escaped during shuttle transfer to New Romulus. One republic shuttle and uniforms for two Republic security guards were acquired as a result of this operation. This will replace the loss of the Imperial shuttle expended.

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Khellian seek contact with military survivors, as well as look into subjugation of independent colonies and Tal Shiar forces.

Reports / Report on Zenas Expanse anomaly.
February 03, 2019, 11:20:06 PM
Report:

After detecting an anomaly during a routine scan of the Zenas Expanse standard Starfleet protocol was followed and an investigation was opened. Passive then active scans showed varying levels success. It was determined that the anomaly was jamming our sensors via radiation output. It is currently unclear if this action is intentional or not.

After finding a small shelter from the radiation sources in space, the Steadfast was able to establish a sensor reading on the anomaly. However no answers were forthcoming. Logic dictated additional sources were necessary to establish the nature of the anomaly. A call for alliance ships was made, and answered by both Starfleet and Gorn vessels.

Initial attempts at probing the anomaly involved a simple baryon pulse. This had no effect.

The second stimulus, provided by the Gorn, involved firing a Polymorphic Probe into the anomaly. This triggered the rampant expansion of the anomaly towards the source of the probe. Ships re-positioned to ensure crew safety.

A Starfleet vessel projected a high level EM band into the anomaly, to which the anomaly reacted by contracting away.

At this point, protocols dictate we assume the anomaly is alive. Any further research is conducted with this assumption in mind.

An anti-proton package was launched, with a probe emitting gamma radiation place between the anomaly and the anti-protons. The anomaly concentrated into a razor's edge and disabled the gamma probe. It then moved to feed upon the antiprotons.

The ship captains assembled and analyzed the data. The team established the anomaly was in fact alive, but was unable to determine the origins of the creature. A buoy was deployed warning travellers of the nature of the creature. Further study is required.

The purpose of this experiment is the view the cultural effects of aggression and aggressive species when faced with teambuilding and command level tasks. Subjects were spread into two groups. Alpha and Beta.*

Group Alpha consisted of humans, a race notable for community building and peaceful exploration.

Group Beta consisted of two Andorians and a Gorn. Both races are notable for past aggression.

Test one allowed both teams to prepare themselves for further tests. Both groups were instructed to bring survival supplies for 25 hours.

Alpha:
Group beta participants in Test one brought light phasers and extra power packs. They also stated concern for local hostiles apart from wildlife.

Beta:
The Andorians of group alpha brought standard Federation phasers. The Gorn, however opted for large scale antimaterial weaponry. Upon seeing this the Andorians appears to sublimate themselves to the gorn. Supplies unremarkable otherwise.

Test two had both groups pick camp sites by their own standards.

Alpha:
Group Alpha immediately sought high ground for its defensibly. After camp had been established the group confirmed that the tactical value of the location was the primary concern. When asked about supply group Alpha believed their foraging ability was sufficient. They had noted that they scouted a river in walking distance.

Beta:
Group Beta immediately secured water by camping at the river. When asked about the location, group Beta stated water as the primary concern, with the defensibly of the local terrain as secondary. The Gorn immediately began hunting local wildlife, while the Andorians relied on their field rations.

Conclusion,
It would seem that officers from less aggressive backgrounds appear to be more tactically minded and defensive then their more forceful counterparts. While those of a more violent cultural background will be bolder and take more risks for additional gain.

This information will allow placement of officers base on their backgrounds for maximum effect, by aligning assignments with the cultural and genetic strengths of those to complete the task. As always, additional research should be conducted by neutral third parties to confirm or invalidate these results.

- Healer C'bal, Vulcan Medical Institute. Starfleet Captain.
